Getting to Schindler's Factory: Tram, Train or On Foot

Tram, train or a 25-minute walk from Krakow's Old Town, or 15 to 30 minutes from Kazimierz. Routes, timing and where your guide meets you.

Updated October 2026

Schindler’s Factory sits at ul. Lipowa 4, in Zablocie, just across the river from Krakow’s Old Town. A tram or a short train ride gets you there in well under half an hour; walking from the Old Town takes about 25 minutes.

If you’re going on your own, buy a timed ticket from the museum’s own site before you set out (60 PLN; Mondays are free, with tickets sold at the door on the day). If you’d rather go with a guide, Tours with Ewa’s tour meets at the Factory itself and includes the entrance ticket. It runs 1.5 hours, from $45 per person, rated 4.5 from 1,854 reviews.

By tram

Several tram lines run from stops near the Old Town — commonly cited as Teatr Slowackiego — to either Zablocie or Plac Bohaterow Getta, about a 9-minute ride, then a 5- to 9-minute walk to Lipowa 4. Which lines cover this route changes over time, so check a live journey planner for the current numbers rather than trusting an old guidebook or blog post.

By train

Frequent short-hop SKA commuter trains run from Krakow Glowny, the main station, to Krakow Zablocie in about 3 minutes, then it’s roughly a 5-minute walk to the museum. If you’re already near the main station, this is usually the fastest option of the three.

On foot, from the Old Town

It’s about a 25-minute walk from the Main Square, mostly flat, crossing the river on one of the central bridges. It’s an easy walk, just not a short one, and it gives you no sense of the ghetto sites nearby unless you deliberately route through them.

From Kazimierz

About 15 to 30 minutes on foot, depending on the route you take. One option worth choosing over the most direct line: from plac Wolnica down to the river, across the Father Bernatek footbridge, along the riverside past the Cricoteka building, then right onto Targowa to Plac Bohaterow Getta before continuing on to the Factory. It’s a route that passes several ghetto-era sites on the way — Ghetto Heroes Square and its 70 chairs, and the short stretch of surviving ghetto wall on ul. Lwowska — rather than just the shortest distance between two points.

By taxi or rideshare

A short ride from the city centre. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Bolt both operate in Krakow and are usually the easiest way to book one. There’s no useful parking directly on ul. Lipowa itself, so arriving by public transport, taxi or on foot is simpler than driving yourself.

Which way fits your day

If getting there quickly is all that matters, the SKA train from Krakow Glowny is hard to beat, at about 3 minutes plus a short walk. If you’re coming from the Old Town with no reason to detour, the tram saves you the 25-minute walk without adding much complexity. And if you’re already walking from Kazimierz with time to spare, the longer route past Ghetto Heroes Square turns the walk into part of the visit rather than dead time before it.

If you’ve booked a longer combined day

Transport works differently if your booking pairs the Factory with Auschwitz-Birkenau: pickup is from a hotel meeting point in the city centre, commonly the Radisson Blu, not from the Factory itself, and the Factory is the last stop of the day before you’re dropped off there to find your own way back. Build a short taxi fare into your plans rather than assuming a lift all the way to your door.

Once you’re there

The museum sits in the same complex as MOCAK, a separate contemporary-art museum in the former production halls, with its own, different hours — Tuesday to Sunday 11:00 to 20:00, against the Factory’s 9:00 to 20:00 — so don’t confuse the two addresses or assume one ticket covers both. The Factory also closes on the first Tuesday of every month and keeps shortened hours around some holidays, so check the date you’re planning against before you set out. What’s inside covers the exhibition itself, and the ghetto walk covers the short distance from here into Podgorze. Every guided option is compared on the homepage.
